Reverend Gary Davis, The Guitar & Banjo of Reverend Gary Davis, Prestige Folklore, 1964, remastering : Fantasy Studio, 2001

Reverend Gary Davis, If I had my way (ce titre ne figure pas sur The Guitar & Banjo of Reverend Gary Davis / the title is not on The Banjo & Guitar of Reverend Gary Davis).

It's a bilingual post. Caroline de Benedetti translates in english. Thanks for her work.

Reverend Gary Davis, The Guitar & the Banjo of Reverend Gary Davis, Prestige Folklore, 1964, remastering : Fantasy Studio, 2001

The Reverend Gary Davis, a preacher and street blind singer, records 11 titles on March 2, 1964 in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, led by Rudy Von Gelder. Awesome finger picking, ragtime (the album opens with Maple Leaf Rag from Scott Joplin), compositions and arrangements of traditional pieces such as extra-ordinary Devil's Dream on banjo. Reverend Gary doesn't sing on this disc but he talks to us fully with his guitar, banjo and harmonica and as pointed out by Nicolas Bardinet in the foreword of Une histoire du Banjo (Outre Mesure, 2003) it is rarely said to play banjo in english, but to pick, to rap, to fram, to strum, to frail or to ring, and that's exactly what it is, to ring. A way of playing who will not leave indifferent guys like Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, Taj Mahal or Ry Cooder ...
